Dynamic Calibration
To test for a moving symbol:
1. Set up an object detector or other external triggering device.
2. In the OMR Settings Setup menu, set the Number Of Fields for the symbol.
3. If the conveyor is moving at a fixed speed, under Trigger Delay Type, you can
choose either Time or Pulse. If moving at a variable speed, enable Pulse (use
this with an encoder with inputs into the scanner’s new master pin).
4. If symbols are moving in a picket fence direction, make certain that Auto Frame
Status in the menu tree is set to Enabled. This will automatically shrink the scan
beam width to optimum size (represented by the red lines and arrow “handles” on
the scan window in the menu). For Ladder type symbols you should disable Auto
Frame and manually move the red arrows to bracket the symbol as the dynamic
calibration is active, taking care to leave comfortable margins on both ends of the
symbol.
5. Start the conveyor line.
6. In the Calibrate area, click Dynamic.
Upon receiving a trigger, the scanner will begin looking for an OMR symbol with
consistent spacing between bars and a number of bars corresponding to the num
-
ber of fields enabled. Once found, the scanner’s setup algorithm records the time
or pulses from trigger to read and uses this as a benchmark for future reads.
Important Note: If Auto Frame has been enabled, the scanner will not calibrate
Time or Pulse values unless the OMR symbol is in the center of the scan.
7. Note where the scans are appearing on the OMR scan window.
Alternately, you may manually by using the direction arrows in the Off Time and
On Time boxes.
8. Click on the TERMINAL button to see the symbol’s output. If you are in a Binary
mode, you should see: 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1. The reason the test pattern has a full set
of bars is so that the scanner can infer the symbol’s frame size.
9. Return to the OMR menu and right click on the menu to save settings.
